  1. Bill….. I agree with you on the “Thanks for your service” thing. I always respond with “That’s what men do”. These people think they are so PC.
    I need some C-Rats and a John Wayne bar……. I’m hungry…..

  2. Hi Tooch……Sorry about your lousy experience at the diner…..Some people are scared of us Viet Nam veterans…..Other people are too self-absorbed…..Still others do not understand the hell we went through……Anyway…..For some reason it gives me the creeps when someone says “Thanks for your service”….I don’t know why…..But I wish you and all my brother vets health, happiness and peace of mind. God bless all.

  3. I just got back from eating breakfast at a local diner. I was wearing a 196th tea shirt and Vietnam logo baseball cap. The placed was packed, and not one person said a word to me. I guess we still get no respect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Hey Carl glad to hear that Linda is mended. How was the Americal reunion? I wanted to give out a Thank You to all vets past and present. Going to the local high school tomorrow to be recognized with other vets and treated to a breakfast by the students. Just got done this past weekend running our semi-annual VFW Poppy Drive. We did quite well and got a lot of help from students from both our high schools as it is hard as pulling teeth to get some vets off their butts to help out. Hope all of you enjoy some type of worthwhile activity on NOV 11 while recognizing all our brothers!

    1. The Americal reunion was great. I enjoy all the reunions. I also went to the Kham Duc reunion in St Louis in October. That was the first of those that I’ve attended. I was honored to meet retired Maj Gen Patrick Brady who was awarded the MOH for the sorties he flew as Dustoff 55 on 6 Jan 68 coming to our aid after nearly being overrun at Heip Duc. He gave me a copy of his book entitled “Dead Men Flying” which is a history of dustoffs in VN. Good book and a great guy. Let me wish all of you a great Veterans Day tomorrow!!!

  5. Are we on R&R? Just a quick note to those who were at the reunion back in July. I’m sure you remember my wife breaking her ankle. Just returned from the doctor and he has released her. The bone is healed but she is still taking P/T here at home each day. He said just keep doing her strengthening exercises. She did extremely well through this whole thing which began 102 days ago. Thanks for your thoughts and kind comments through this whole thing.

  6. Let’s just say I never had to clean my shotgun, but fortunately I was never near a politician either. Still, I brought home a couple birds because they got too close to the real hunters!

  7. Back from Iowa, had a super good time even though Ben was in harvest time it was great. Lots of catching up to do, fun, food, and we tipped a few too! Part of the Iowa experience is a good steak dinner and that we did.

  8. A couple of old jokes…..A horse walks into a bar…..The bartender says “Why the long face? “……….A termite walks into a bar and says ” Where is the bar tender? “…….A missionary to Alaskan Eskimos says “Many are cold, but few are frozen”

  9. Everybody must be off on some kind of secret mission and maintaining radio silence. Apparently, we weren’t invited along. 🙂

  10. Heading on an adventure, leaving tomorrow early to hook up with an old friend and by next Friday I will be in Iowa with Ben and Marilyn to tip a few and pop a few pheasants with them. Been wanting to go see them for a long time and now that we are all getting “short” it’s time!

  11. Yes, some had not changed a lot. Only one person out of a class of 417 I stayed in touch with. We rode to school together, he was in the infantry 1970-1971, & his daughter was born 11/23/68 the day I got home to the world.

  12. Hi Bill……Growing old is not easy….but it beats the alternative…..I have 4 years to go to my 50th anniversary…..Were you able to recognize people without their name tags?

  13. I went to my high school 50th anniversary last week end. There were a lot of old people there. Thought I was in the wrong place. Then I saw the enemy and it was me!

  14. Excellent beat ! I would like to apprentice while you amend your site, how can i subscribe for a bpog website?
The account aided mee a acceptable deal. I had been a little bit acquainted of
this your broadcast provided bright clear concept

    1. English ain’t your primary language, is it?
I know you’re just a troll, but that’s remarkably un-intelligible even by troll standards.
Keep up the good work, study hard and maybe some day you’ll understand when I say, “Fuck you. Get off this site.”

  15. For all of the beer discussions. When young, back in the world, before Nam, we always made fun of Schaeffer. And there were some who made fun of Rhinegold (NY Beer-maybe only a big name around here.) Nowadays, my “beer snob” kids who are always discussing Octoberfest, pale ale, and all these other pumpkin beers, etc. make fun of me for preferring Bud Light. But the important thing to remember is, Any beer is better than no beer.!
Similar answer to the Jimi Hendrix question (movie about him now but with some of the great songs missing because they couldn’t get the rights to all of them). How could anyone from our group not be a Hendrix fan??????

  16. To answer the Raineer Beer questions, no offense taken, yes they still makr it, no I don’t drink it ‘cuz I prefer the light version of Colorado Cooler.

  17. Pingback: expensive coffee
  18. I had an email from a guy seeking more information about his dad that served with Charlie company in 1970 – 1971. He said his dad has three purple hearts and he was a platoon SSgt. The son’s last name is Keeney. Has anyone know of this guy?
I told this guy that I do not know of anyone with 3 purple hearts and if he was a platoon sgt, someone will remember him.

  19. Larry,
I know they don’t make Olympia beer anymore. I had a lot of Tumwater’s finest when I was stationed at Ft. Lewis.
Terry, I thought Rainier was gone also. Not so?

  20. When I was a kid in Washington state we had a saying that “Rainier Beer comes from here”, and we would point to our zipper. I haven’t tasted it for so long that I can’t say if that is still accurate. No offense Terry.
By the way, are you still a Jimi Hendrix fan?

    1. Do they still make Olympia beer? When I was out there visiting several of you guys, Tate Hayes told me a story about Olympia Beer ownership. It was a funny story to me as Tate did not pull any punches and I am sure that he did not read the story he told me in print or see it on tv.

    1. Shiner started to get too heavy for me, so I’ve switched to Dos Equis. Smooth and good!!!!!
The Mexican’s might not be able to do much else, but they can damn sure brew beer. LOL

  21. I drink regular strength Coors. It goes down easy after a shot of Fleishman’s whiskey. Years ago I used to like Rheingold chug-a-mugs, which had a wide mouth bottle, but they don’t make them any more.
