ANY 1 KNOW IF CPT.BILL BACON WAS RELATED TO NICK BACON–THE GRUNT THAT EARNED THE MEDAL OF HONOR WEST OF TAM KY IN 68 ? MET /KNEW HIM WHEN HE LIVED IN AZ.–DAM GOOD GUY/GRUNT.

  3. Bill C,
I must apologize as I said KC in six. They screwed me up by changing it to five. Last night was a heart breaker for the Mets. Even I thought it was going to end in a shut out for the Mets but as Yogi Berra always said “it ain’t over till its over”. Good game for us KC fans.

  4. Bill Beckum……I have to admit it…….The Royals played a better Series than the Mets…….But the Mets had some bad luck too……Spring training will be around before you know it and the whole thing will start again.

  5. Well, Bill….I only drank about half a fifth last night and went to bed at the bottom of the sixth with the Mets up by 6…..Score remained the same……I predict the Mets will win again tonight……..Go Mets Go.

  6. Bill, Bill, Bill, when you get the bottom of the fifth, & I am not talking about baseball 5th inning, the truth will be revealed to you………

  7. Pretty scary opener. Thanks to a last second homer the Royals got to tooth an toenail it out in a nail biter. Tonight was more like it. Now if the many distractions of the Big Apple aren’t too much, maybe we can get this over with quick.

  8. hey russ—you remember the full name of tim–with the 82 ? the grunt that caught shrapnel in the eye, when we were on a regular patrol ?

    1. I remember what he looked like, but can’t recall the name. How long were we in that company…….couldn’t have been too long.

  9. Well the KC Royals won. Back in the 80’s my family lived there when they had the I-70 series with ST. Louis. I was in Vietnam when the “Miracle Mets won in 69. You NY Met grunts should just give KC the broom as the sweep is coming.

  10. Judy and I are in Decatur, AL, where Don and Freida Perry hosted the 2006 reunion. In fact we are staying in the RV park that we stayed in when we attended the reunion. Don and Freida took us out to eat and we had a wonderful meal and refreshments. It was a great get together!

    1. Hi Larry, Hope you and Judy can swing by for a visit when you come through Nashville. The grill is hot, the ribeye’s are primed and ready and the table is set.
Hope all of other Charlie Grunts are doing good and enjoying the great Fall. Sorry to hear about the Cubs loss, but they had a great year. Take care….

  11. Congratulations to you and your Mets Tooch. I didn’t realize the old Chicago goat’s name was Murphy.
But clearly the superior team, and should be a good World Series, and I’ll give ’em a Go Mets !

  12. Hats off to the Mets pitching staff. They have iced the Cubs bats! The Cubs hurt themselves defensively last night. The merciful thing would be for them to lose tonight so they don’t have to travel to New York to let the Mets have the victory on their own turf! As Cubs fans have said for years, “There’s always next year”.

  13. Well……. it looks like the Cubs have the Mets right where they want them. No mercy……. They are so brutal……

  14. Great Scott !! The Volo Auto Museum, up near LT’s place started a contest back in March to give away a DeLorean if the Cubs got in the World Series. The contest goes until one day before the series starts and all you have to do is visit the museum to enter. LT and I will drive it to the next reunion and give Tooch a ride !!!
We are anxious to show the Mets some good old Chicago hospitality tomorrow.

  15. GO CUBS!!!!!! In “Back to the Future”, they said the Cubs won the world series in 2015. It is written and so it shall be.

    1. Hey Tooch, ya know many of my old friends here in Chicago still have vivid memories of the 69 season, and are looking forward to payback. I grew up 2 block away from Wrigley, but I happened to be out of town that year. As I’m sure you were also.
      Go CUBS !!!!

      1. Russ, I was out of town for sure. I also missed the Knicks winning the NBA championship , the Jets winning the superbowl, and the landing on the moon. Tooch

  16. Here’s hoping our brothers in South Carolina are safe and dry. I read where they got 17 inches of rain in 24 hours. Brother Don Kovarick hosted a reunion on Hilton Head Island, SC several years back looks to be in the eye of the storm. There are several more in the area.
