I served in Charlie company then E recon 1970-1971 looking for anyone who remembers me
Lance
After I left Lance! Welcome home.
Let me remember the 4 who died while I was with Charlie Co between late Nov. 1970 and August 17, 1971.
KIA–Jan. 11, 1971
SSG Leo Rose
SP/4 Allan Gray
KIA–May 1, 1971
SP-4 James Stout
Suicide–March, 1971
“Memphis” I don’t even remember his real name.
Sometimes I get a reunion notices back that say deceased. This year I did not get a deceased letter back. But I did get a nice card from Maxine Campbell, wife of Patrick Campbell. She stated that Pat passed away on February 10, 2015. She said that Pat was proud to be a member of Charlie Company. He is in inurnment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
Pat was one of the “originals†that went over on a ship. He was the very first “first sgts†of the company. I met him at 196th reunion in July, 2007. RIP brother!
I did not know them. I do hope their status can be found.
I have 273 guy’s names and contact information for guys that served in Charlie Company. I send out reunion notice letters or emails to everyone each year. I always get some letters back as unable to forward. When I get these letters back, I try and call and see if I can get the current address. Sometimes this works and I get new addresses that I update on the web site. Most of the time, I get a phone disconnected message. The search program that I used for years has gone out of business and I just have not found a good search program that does not cost a lot to use. This year so far I have gotten back the notices as unable to deliver on Rahl Robles, Paul Critchlow and Jack Glozier. Has anyone kept in contact with these guys and have current contact information?
In Memory of the seven who gave their all during my tour and all the men & women who have allowed me the freedom to type this.

Hey Bill Beckam you wouldnt happen to know my dad do you?
Bill:
Missed your earlier comment about the KIA from C 2/1 while you were in country. Having pulled missions with other units including the Marines with Warlock the “best grunt” I ever pulled a mission with was “Detwiler”. The first time we went out on a patrol we got into a argument because he wanted to walk point for his “squad”. I finally convince him that Warlock would not find any gooks spelling his ass. A real John Wayne!
Lyrics to “Mansions of the Lord” hymn are by Randall Wallace from the film “We Were Soldiers Once”.
Than you Bill!
To fallen soldiers let us sing,
Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing,
Our broken brothers let us bring
To the Mansions of the Lord.
No more bleeding, no more fight,
No prayers pleading through the night,
Just divine embrace, eternal light
In the Mansions of the Lord.
Where no mothers cry and no children weep,
We will stand and guard though the angels sleep,
All through the ages safely keep
The Mansions of the Lord.
Just got back from the 70-73 group reunion in Gatlinburg, TN. What a great time we had!
Thanks to Tom Price, Frank Smith, Lee Corman, Russell Wright, Jerry Witt, Lou Laparl, John “Plowboy” Brown, Gene Secrest, Dwight Rose, Larry Ferguson, Ben Beuhler and all the wives for coming and making it one of the best reunions yet. It just gets better every year!
And, Gary Evans too!
She must not know Charlie Grunts if intelligence and we are in the same sentence.
Thanks Ty
You’re most welcomed, Bill.
Anyone know how old or about how old Capt Yap is?
Bill, I’d guess mid 70s.
TY–THANKS FOR THE UPDATE ON RUDY,KNOW HIS HEALTH HAS SURE BEEN GOING DOWNHILL. WISH THE BEST AS POSSIBLE FOR HIM.
He was my Capt most of my tour! Capt Morris came in at the end of my tour!
Rudy Yap has been in a care home after a week in the hospital. He has pumps to assist his breathing due to scar tissue on his lungs from Agent Orange. They both failed. He is fighting hard. For those of you who do not know him, he was Charlie Company Commander before Bob Morris. I am certain a kind word to him from those who know him would be most appreciated and go a long way to elevate his spirits.
Cleveland sounds good to me!
got a call from doc whitebird, suggesting the next year reunion be in cleveland, ohio–mainly because that`s close to where cpt. morris lives–hoping he makes it that far. sounds good to me.
any comments ?
I went to a Vietnam veterans commemorative thing today at the Northport (New York) Veteran’s hospital location. A politician or two made speeches but they were sincere and not grandstanding. I use this facility all the time and it is top notch. I hope others are having good luck with thier medical stuff, unlike that crap that was unearthed a year or two ago.
At this event, they had about 600 chairs set up and I think they had about 1500 of us show up. When they played taps (real military musicians, not a recording) I got choked up and teary eyed. Images or Arky, Jake, two medics, Danny/Tennessee and Lt. Smith went through my head. It felt right though. Just felt like telling you guys about it.
Thanks, Jim,
It gets to me, too, everytime I hear Taps played live.
Made reservations for September reunion. Will arrive Monday and leave Sunday.
I am going to Oregon, IL next Tuesday with Ben Buehler to help present scholarships to deserving students in Honor of Ed Rimmer the medic who was killed that night. RIP LT, Armando and Ed!

I got my motel room booked and my flight reservations made today for the reunion in Seattle in September.
Hey Brother Larry what day are you arriving and what day are you departing?
Getting there Monday and leaving Sunday.
I have an update on the condition of Brother Danny Buskirk. He’s now under hospice care in Ohio and has been refusing to eat.
Hi everyone. I was looking forward to the reunion in Seattle, but for reasons of my own, I will not be attending. If anyone is interested in my reasons; contact me directly. Tooch
Thanks again, Larry. Now, any chance there is an updated email address for Doc Whitebird?
I only have the on that is on the roster section of this web site.
I appreciate your efforts, brother.
Much obliged, Larry.
Been calling Ron Hurst for over a week off his number on the roster but keep getting a recording saying: “All circuits are busy. Try your call again later.” Anyone have a different contact number for Ron? Thanks.
Try 863-698-4229.
Thanks!!!
I JUST LOOKED AND DID NOT SEE ANYTHING ABOUT A KY. REUNION.
sr
Look at the pull down on the reunions and it is the second one listed.
Anyone heard anything from Carl Fryman?
Hey Lt. I’m still here. I’m out of town right now but I will answer your email when I get back home.
While Wally, Rex and I were on our road trip we stopped by Lee Corman’s house in Nicholasville, KY and had a great visit with him. Lee aka “The Quick One†is hosting the first of two company reunions (the first one is in May, the second is in September). The details on the May reunion is on the reunion tab on this web site. I want to thank Lee for a very generous donation for the web site expenses.
wally–when are you and larry gonna get rex to post some comments ? larry still have enough acres to keep rex busy ?
where is Ed and marie now –indy or florida ?
Rex will probably never post. Ed and Marie are in Ind.
