  1. There are a lot of guys that would like to have our 2017 reunion in Cleveland. The rock and roll hall of fame is there and Canton, OH home of the NFL hall of fame is about an hour south of Cleveland. The weekend after Labor Day has been a good date for our reunions in the past as it is not busy in the hotel business and we get better rates. That time of year the kids are back in school and things are just not so busy plus the weather is usually still really good.
    What are you guy’s thoughts?

  2. I forgot to mention two days ago the 50th anniversary of the deaths of the first Charlie Grunts and my good friends, Richard Smith and Roger Bonner.
My heart aches in their memory.

  3. Just wanted to say thanks to Terry and Louise for being such wonderful host in Seattle. They did a terrific job hosting the reunion. I went to the Americal reunion in Albuquerque, NM the next week, 14th thru 18th. For those of you who may remember or served with Don Alexander, he was KIA in March of 69. I left country before Don’s death. One thing that I wanted to do while in Albuquerque, was to visit Don’s gravesite in Socorro, NM 80 miles south of Albuquerque. I was able to rent a car in the hotel, make the drive down there, and successfully find the cemetery and Don’s gravesite next to his parents and pay my respects to Don. It was a good feeling being able to do that successfully. Hopefully, I’ll see everyone next year in Cleveland!

    1. Carl,
Thanks for visiting his grave. Although I did not know Don I was in that major engagement. My first major firefight. May he RIP.

    2. Don became a close friend to me. We both got purple hearts the same night in Nov. I later went to the C P as RTO other wise I no doubt would have been near him when he took 7 rounds( I was told)
About 4 years ago I went to Socorro to visit his grave but I could not fond it. Nor could I find any relatives. Last Sept I saw his “brick” at the Vietnam Memorial at Angle Fire N.M.

  4. Brothers, thanks to all who came to Seattle. Such a beautiful place to visit and live. We had a great time hosting and look forward to seeing our west coast brothers a bit more often. Thanks again and again to Larry for making this possible and also for helping my wife. Brother, Terry

  5. Everyone who couldn’t attend the reunion missed a great time. Louise and Terry did wonderful job. I hope more can make the next reunion you know we aren’t getting any younger.

    1. Wally the nice thing about my state of mind is I am only 21 and everyone in my world agrees with me. No back talk.

  6. Colonel Si Nerone sent me a check to buy refreshments for the guys at the reunion. Everyone got several refreshing drinks from his contribution. I had several of the sales receipts signed by the guys. Several made comments along with their thanks that I will be forwarding Brother Si.
Brother Bill Beckum also wanted me to buy a round of beverages on him and send him the bill.
All the attendees thank Brothers Si and Bill.

  7. While at the reunion, I received an very nice contribution for the web site and other expenses for Charlie Company guys from Ron Causey. Thank you very much Ron, it is very much appreciated!

  8. I think we had 28 in attendance for the reunion. First time reunion attendees were Tate Hayes and Randy Budlong. We had a great time as usual. We got to see a lot of stuff around Seattle, especially the traffic. We did everything from going to a Seattle Mariners baseball game to the space dome. We also went to the market where they throw fish about 10 yards and another guy catches the fish and throws it back to the guy that threw it. And of course lots of socializing. It was a great reunion. Thank you, Terry and Louise Roberts for being a great hose for the reunion.
We discussed next year’s reunion. It was brought up that if we hold a reunion in Cleveland that Captain Morris will be able to attend. Everyone thought this would be a good place to go next. Anyone have any suggestions?

  9. Hi Bill….I have prayed for your wife. I hope it does some good. Best wishes to your whole family at this trying time.

  10. Well lets have some feedback on the reunion. Sorry Kay and I couldn’t make it. She is having a major test Wednesday & see the doctor Friday. Went to see Tom Hanks in “Sully” as she wanted to. Thought it was going to do her in. Prayers please. We met in High School, married 2 1/2 years when I went to Nam, & married 50 years in June.

  11. am in Florida-visited ron hurst–hope to see “mac” mckiney on Drive back to AZ. DANG grunts are getting are getting older.

  12. Took basic training at Fort Devens, Mass. and was a squad leader with 2/1 but because of my typing skills I was assigned to HHC Section 4 as a clerk typist after basic. Sargeants Patterson and Rodrigues were my drill sargeants in basic. I worked for Major Ashley and Sargeant Lenhart in S-4 Section.

    1. Hi Donald
I think you must have been in Lt. Paul Cahill’s platoon in basic.
I don’t remember Ashley but Capt. Snow was in the S4 office for quite a while at that time.
Your are one of the very few C Cpmpany guys here from the very early days.

  13. Seeking information on death of 2Lt (posthumously promoted 1Lt) Robert “Chomp” Russell Lewis, from Pierre, SD; WIA 5 Jan 68, died of wounds 10 Jan 68. Chomp was my childhood friend and college classmate. He was killed while I was in Officers Training and soon to Vietnam, so was not aware of his death and circumstances at the time. Would like to correspond with those who knew him in unit and might have information on his loss. Thanks, Larry, Vietnam ’69-70.

    1. Hi Larry,
My name is Carl Fryman and Lt Lewis was my platoon leader. I was with him on 5 January 68 when he was wounded. Send me an email at carlfryman@fuse.net We will set something up to talk over the phone rather than over the net.

  14. Gentlemen,
Kay and I went for a doctor visit today. Several over the last few months. Kay has been suffering for the last several months and we continue to see specialist. We do not have a diagnosis yet or a treatment plan. We will NOT be at the Seattle reunion. We also have canceled a Florida trip in December until we get this resolved. As you Chicago Cub fans say “Wait till next year.” Your prayers would be appreciated.

  15. I wouldn’t mind making the 60 mile long haul to join in the prairie dog shoot; if you have room. I don’t have a crew served weapon like Gary but I’ll try to keep up with my .223.

  16. I wouldn’t mind driving the brutal 60 miles to get in on the pest control effort, if you have room. I don’t use a crew served weapon like Gary but I’ll try to keep up with my .223.

  17. To Gary Capshaw:
I could not reply to your comment, so I will start a new one comment. We hunt prairie dogs year around as they are a destructive pest. Your 303 would be a bit big and loud for this, but I guess you could shoot from a lot further off. I use a 17 HMR most of the time or if they stay spooked, I use a 204. May is my favorite month to shoot as there are a lot more of them as the young ones are out. October thru March is about the best time I go shooting. I love to shoot them April thru May, but it is farming time and hard to get away. If you are serious, I will arrange a shoot for you.

    1. Yeah, I’m serious. Maybe we could get a few more to come and live off your generosity for a day or two. LOL
But, I’ll have to hold off on committing to a date because I might be out of the country in Oct. and/or November. After that, it might be too cold for me. LOL I’ll let you know if I’m available when I figure it out.

  18. Gary Capshaw:
I forgot to ask you earlier when you made your post, did you make Ben & Marilyn eat nails like you did Judy and I when we visited you?

    1. LOL No, I made something edible this time. After I “fed” y’all, I’m surprised you still have teeth. 🙂

          1. Not a bad idea. When are you having your next prairie dog shoot? I have a couple of new .303 Enfields I need to try out. 🙂

  19. Terry and Louise Roberts gave me an update to the agenda for the reunion next month which starts on September 8. This is a summary of what I added to the agenda:
Thursday 09-08 we will have dinner at BJ’s Restaurant, Redmond, WA (within walking distance from hotel). BJ’s Dinner buffet is $15.00 PER person with drinks an added expense for everyone.
Friday 09-09 is a daytrip to Historic Downtown Snohomish (20 mi. north of hotel). Dinner will be at Crab Pot Restaurant, Bellevue (other things on menu besides fish). At the Crab Pot Restaurant, we will order off the menu with separate checks.
Saturday 09-10 visit Seattle attractions, Dinner at VFW Redmond, WA at 6:00 pm. The meal will be $18.00 per person with a Pre decided menu and drinks will be extra.
PLEASE BRING CASH FOR $15.00 & $ 18.00 TO COVER THE 2 DINNERS THAT WILL BE ON 1 CHECK FOR EACH OF THOSE THURS. & SATURDAY NITES

  20. I’d like to thank Ben and Marylin Buehler for gracing our home with their wonderful company. They could only stay one night, but we sure had a great time hanging out on the patio.
    Safe travels, our friends!

  21. Today is catch up day. Darrell Chancelor has made a dvd with photos and music for me to show at the reunion next month in Seattle. He also made a donation for this web site expenses. Thank you Darrell!
He said Ben and Marilyn Buehler stayed in Nashville a few months back and they got to visit with Darrell.

    1. Enjoyed talking to you this afternoon, Larry. It was my pleasure to put together the DVD. Hope everyone enjoys watching it in Seattle as much I did putting it together. As you noted, I had a great visit with Ben and Marilyn Buehler a couple of months ago as they passed through Nashville. Hope everyone is having a happy and healthy summer. Take care.

  22. I have had communications with Si Nerone, our battalion commander while he was in Nam. He is going to be unable to attend this year’s reunion in Seattle. He did send me a nice big contribution for refreshments at the reunion.
He was very happy to hear of talk of having the 2017 reunion in Cleveland as that is close to where he lives and he will be able to attend.
Thank you for your generous donation, Brother Si! We will tip a few for you.

  23. Another of our brothers contacted me yesterday that is new coming into our brotherhood. Darrell Wagner is a medic that served with our company. He was in Nam in 1967-1968. He told me he went to Nam on a ship out of Seattle. He went thru the worst battle that Charlie Company had on January 5 & 6, 1968. We talked for about an hour on the phone last night.
I will be posting his contact information to the roster section today.

  24. Hi all, I’m looking for anyone from C company 2/1 who were in country 1967-1968 that served with Jack Carpenter from Georgia. He served with Malachi, German, Snodgrass and was with Jordan Ramey when Ramey was KIA in (Twister Charlie) Hiep Duc valley. Jack usually carried an M79 thumper.

    1. I served with Jack. He was in a different platoon but met Jack at a few reunions. Hope all is well with Jack.
      Carl Fryman

      1. Jack is doing good. He’s been working a nice garden all summer. Jack is my neighbor down the road. He told me about that night in Hiep Duc valley and the great guys he served with like Ronald Malachi. That night in the valley was the last time he ever saw Malachi and after medevac he thought Malachi must have died that night. I researched and found Malachi in California safe and sound. Malachi gave me his number and him and Jack have talked over old times since. I found out you guys were having reunions and I got Jack to go to his first one when it was in New York a few years ago. I will tell Jack we talked. I don’t think Jack has a computer to get on here.
        Tom

        1. Tom, Tell Jack hello for me. I met him for the first time up in Buffalo in 2009. I think he was at one other, maybe DC in 2013. I’m glad to hear he is doing well.
          Carl
