  1. Hey guys!
I need your help. My oldest daughter Cindy has asked me to see if I can get her some help to get votes for a project for one of the schools in her district. It is a contest to get in the top ten in votes to get funding of $25K from Pepsi for interactive white boards to help kids to read. If you would please access the website and vote for it everyday until the end of April. I would appreciate but most of all the kids will definitely benefit. Here is the website.

  2. There is a very interesting event coming up for one of our brothers on May 31. Almost all of us ended our military career after our Nam tour. But Glen Coonts is finally retiring after a short 42 year career. May 2 is his final day to report to duty and he will use up the rest of his days of leaves. They are having a retirement party for him on May 22 (more details to come). What’s so crazy is he is still a grunt! He has been at this day to retire many times, but always signs up for another four more. Wouldn’t it be something to see him hit 50 years?

  3. Thanks to all for the b-day wishes. I don’t get here much but you are all in my thoughts. Semper Primus to all!

  4. Wow! 70 huh! No I just got my medicare card on the 1st of April so that would make me 65 in a few more days! Sorry Ty I thought your birthday was the 10th so if it is officially today as Ben says then HB today! What no peaches with the pound cake? It just wouldn’t be right hey Chuck!

  5. LT:
Yeah, I think a party would be in order. We can all meet up at Harper’s farm and he can supply all the beer and food. In exchange, the rest of us will just have to be nice guys and maybe shoot some rabbits or gophers for him or something. 🙂
But, it just wouldn’t be a birthday without pound cake and a candle, would it?
    A really old fart? Hmmmm…..must be 70!

  6. Gary,
Are you throwing out hints that you want us to throw you a party? I will be really old fart in 6 days. Want to guess my age?? I still am very humbled in the prescense of great senior citizens like Si Nerone, Sydney Silverman and the Old Sarge, Ben Musquez.

  7. What? 61 makes someone an old fart?
Well ain’t that just great. That means I only have 3 more months ’till old farthood!

  8. happy birthday TY & anyone who shares this date as reminder of approaching ‘OL AGE-anniversary’s included larry fry

  9. Ty,
I believe your birthday is on the 10th just as my Tai! Happy birthday in advance you 61 year old you!
    Love Yah Brother!

  10. It’s the time of year for everyone to give Ty Harper the old fart stuff. Happy birthday, Ty.
I think today is also Lou Laparl’s birthday also. Happy birthday Lou.

  11. Brett is a student at Iowa State University in Ames and has steadily improved his game, but has really come to the top in the last 2 years. He wins the High Over All about 50% of the time. He has been beating National Champions and Olympians on a regular basis. As for your last question, Clay, I am not aware of any school that has their own range. Last time we were in Colorado (2-3 years ago), Saturdays shoot was a private club range near Denver, Sundays shoot was at Buckley AFB. This year they chose the NRA range at Raton, NM, A couple of years ago the Purdue shoot was held at the Kankakee Gun Club, south of Chicago as I remember.
Yes, we are proud of Brett, not only for his scores (he has a lot of ESPN footage), but for the way he interacts with his competitors. He is well liked and respected. Sometimes he introduces me as his father that has shot professionally around the world!

  12. Congrats to Ben Buehler’s son, Brett, and to Ben. As a parent I know how you live and die with your kids’ accomplishments. Sounds like Brett has an incredible talent. Where does he go to school?
Why would the Colorado State Invitational be held in New Mexico?

  13. My salute to our fallen comrades also. For what its worth, C 2/1 lost a young man from Guymon, OK (where I lived for much of the ’90’s) in Iraq a few years ago. I hate to be ghoulish but I always read the VFW Magazine’s “A Final Salute” listing of KIA’s in our current wars. 2/1 has lost a couple of guys in Afghanistan in the last few months. The battalion is now part of 5th Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. I feel like those guys, even though I know none of them, are kind of like part of our family.

  14. Trap & Skeet update: Larry Harper posted about getting together in Raton, NM. That was the Colorado State invitational. Nothing to mention there, but last weekend was the Oklahoma State invitational. Son, Brett won all three events on Saturday (Trap, Skeet, and Doubles Trap). On Sunday he was second in Sporting Clays and down the list a ways in 5 Stand, but ended up High Over All. This is his 6th and last year of college competion. OSU was the last invitational of his career. We have been the “Mom and Dad” for the team for the last 5 years, a wonderful experience and a lot of traveling. The last event will be the Nationals in San Antonio, 3rd week of April. Just sharing my joys with my brothers. And Happy Easter to you all. A very emotional time for me 40 years ago and again today. So glad (and lucky) to be here with my brothers.

  15. HAPPY EASTER TO ALL MY C/2/1 BROTHERS! IT SEEMS VERY APPROPRIATE ON THIS DAY TO ALSO REMEMBER ALL THOSE WE LOST IN VIETNAM AND ALSO THOSE BROTHERS WHO DIED AFTER VIETNAM BACK HOME! ONE YOUNG FELLOW STICKS IN MY MIND TODAY AND THAT IS BILL REDMOND! REST IN PEACE BROTHERS!

  16. so ben how close to double tree airport hotel r u? where the americal reunion is scheduled may 14-15

  17. not shure what to think——on my 40th anniversary of being wounded was burying a very close friend.

  18. Google it….it appears most of us have never heard about it either, including me, after 40 years. Looks like only half of the states even honor it. But what else is new…..? How bout we set our own Welcome Home Charlie Company Day.. Maybe celebrate it in Minnesota in September.

  19. Did it get past everyone or just me that today is “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day?
I watch and read the news and visit several sites like this and just heard about it this afternoon. Too bad.
    Welcome home, Charlie Company.

  20. Larry Fry:
It’s not me that had any heart problems. I have had good health my whole life. Judy is doing well. Good luck, brother and I hope you get well soon.
