  1. Bring on the Cheese Heads. It should be a good game.
Don I work with a Marine that said that when he was at Chu Lai there wasn’t much
    there.

  2. 11 degrees below zero in Albany NY when I got up this morning………brrrrrrrrr…Welcome Don….I hope you get in touch with some other original guys.

  3. HI don-long time no see–still married to janet ? yes, i still have my 1985 booklet. back then it seemed most of the guys were from indianna, and were “the originals” or as some said–“the boat people” enjoy sailing over ? not enough of you old timers have found this site as yet.
i got to vung tau in feb of 1970. they had a nice 3 day R and R center then . doubt they did when you guys got there.
try and get a few more from the good old days to show up–and welcome.

  4. Welcome Don Koele. A Charter Member of C 2/1 no less–at least for the Viet Nam era. Did you get involved in the Attleboro op? When you first got to Chu Lai was it mainly Marines or was Task Force Oregon a going concern by then? I don’t mean to be nosy but I like hearing history from actual participants.

  5. I am one of the original C/2/1 grunts. I was drafted October, ’65, from Janesville, WI. Trained in Ft. Devens, MA., we set sail from Boston in July, ’66, arrived in Vung Tau, RVN, August. We set up the original base camp in Tay Ninh and 8mos later move to Chu Lai. I survived to return home July, 67. Went to 1st 196 20ry reunion in Washington, DC in 1985.
Thanks for recognizing those of us who “face the fire”.
Looking forwer to the reunion in Killeen, TX. Now residing in Round Rock, TX

  6. Shortround…..not much that can said as we all feel that same pain. But let me share this message that I pulled from my LinkedIn 82nd Airborne group today:
    Paratrooper’s Quote of The Day
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” Theodore Roosevelt

    1. no u-r not off base– they should of done the Major inFT. HOOD the same as they should to thisyoung man/trail=death penalty=execution///=next week=== he did kill a— 9 YR OLD—

  7. presume most have heard of the tucson tragedy and fort hood. congress makes and can change laws. maybe it`s time for a special circumstances law, where there is no reasonable doubt. killers caught with smoking gun in hand are not “alleged” they are guilty beyond doubt. a special judge can see evidence the next day, declare (judge) guilt, and tell the killer he will be executed within a week. no circus of trials and media frenzy. most of us have seen good Americans die for less. this lastest nut, at age 22, could easily outlive the victims and most taxpayers now alive. this is fair and just ? if i`m too off topic, say so. i just don`t like some of what i see nowdays.

  8. Please tell me it’s true; the 2011 is in Killeen, TX? Oh, this isn’t for my benefit, it is for my dad’s (C company, 2/1, ’66-’67). Oh, where are my manners? I am the son of Don Koele. Hopefully somebody here remembers him. He’s been living near Austin for the last several years and is totally unaware of this site and the reunion (but I did send him a message about them). I can’t believe how excited I am for my dad to have this opportunity. That last reunion he attended was in D.C.
Before I depart, I’d like to say “Thank you all for your service. You’ve earned a lifetime of respect for your service.”

  9. Russ sounds like a good idea, but I have to work Super Bowl Sunday.
Ed never tried ice fishing might be fun.

  10. Ed don’t be mean to those of us who have to stay in the frozen north!
    Chuck,
Being born and raised a cheesehead I have to root for the Packers next Sunday! It will certainly be one of the most watched games around here!
Brothers, I ask for your prayers for Tom Lazear B/2/1 who is undergoing back surgery!

  11. Bill Beckum,
Ben and Marilyn went down to the Keys for a couple of days. As soon as I get the details I’ll let you know.
    Wally,
Maybe you can try some ICE FISHING!

  12. Wally, don’t worry, you’re not the only working stiff in the band. My youngest is 5, so my only rest will be with a 21 gun sendoff. But maybe we can break away to go see the Steelers play my Bears in the Super Bowl….?

  13. I’m glad to hear everyone is enjoying themselves this winter. Sounds like I’m the only one who has to still work. It would be nice to sit on the beach and do some surf fishing.
    Go Steelers.

  14. Larry (Sgt Fury) presented me an AK47 round which had my name on it. I here I thought I was the one who saved his ass in 69 and 70.

  15. Judy & I were in San Antonio last night and got together with Chuck & Suzanne Missar. We had a very nice meal and even greater people to enjoy it with. Chuck found out for the first time how he survived Nam and he sure was appreciative.

  16. Fast Eddie
I used to shore fish on the causway going to Sanibel Island 30 some years ago and used to catch a ton of fish. We were back there on Captiva Island last year and had a guide take us out for a day and nailed the Redfish, Snook and trout. Good luck and tight lines….

  17. Ed,
Is that the one near Brandon. I am about 3 hours away. I live in Belle Glade. If you let me know the day and Time would love to crash the gathering.

  18. yesterday was our 1st 70 degree day of the year. sure has been a rough winter.
    top and chuck–happy birthday–have a few more

  19. Wally: Ben and I checked out some fishing charters but that’s pretty iffy right now. We took the easy way out and went to a seafood restaurant near Port Charlotte that was recommended by some locals. It was unique and really good. Then tonight Ben did a “fish boil” that turned out great!
Bill: We are near Arcadia. Next week or the week after we will be meeting at Manatee State Park with Ben, Bill Clark, Ty Harper, and John Doorman.

  20. Happy Birthday to Chuck and Top Silverman!
Larry sorry to hear about your sister! Ours prayers are always with you and your family!
    Ken and Tai

  22. I got an email from Louise Roberts that Terry spent 3 days in the hospital with a very infected foot. He can’t walk or drive. He is doing the self administered blood thinning shots in his belly for a week, which hates. He was able to transfer to an oral antibiotic at home. It is a scary incident for them, but they are taking it one day at a time. Keep them in some prayers while they get to the other side of this situation.
Bill; in case fast Eddie doesn’t get back for awhile, they are in Arcadia, where they always go in the winter.

  23. My old timers is kicking in, but the way I remember it Top Silverman turns over one more digit yesterday or today and ole Charles Missar has a birthday the next day. Whatever day it is, happy birthday brothers!
Great to see you post, my brother Fast Eddie.
