  1. Ed,
I would tell you to tip a few Coors Lights on your birthday but I don’t believe that would be necessary. Have a Great Day!

  2. Today is one of my thank God I’m alive days. 41 years ago today Al Firman killed a VC hiding in a hedgerow who had an American baseball grenade in his pockiet that he was reaching for with an instant fuze in it. Had he pulled the pin he would have gotten several us including Al, Chuck, Doc and I without a doubt. I will always remember this day as one of many lucky days in my 66 years. Thanks Al!

  3. happy birthday to lt and ty looking forward to see ing u all again in killeen will toss back a couple then

  4. Ben, glad you & your family survived the tornado…..Hey LT and TY….I wish you both very happy birthdays. I will drink a toast to you when we reach cocktail time tonight……. If anybody has not clicked on the audio(at the top of this webpage), I recommend it. The sound of the chopper blades really brings you back.

  5. Ben, saw the news about the tornado and was wondering how you made out.
Glad to hear you and Marilyn are ok.

  6. Ken, Happy Birthday to you a day early. We know it’s tomorrow, the 12th, but for those who don’t know you well, answer this, please… When you served in the war what side were you on… the North or the South?

  7. Ben,
Glad to hear that you and Marilyn are alright! You guys took the punch out of the storm as it hit in IL as a whimper!

  8. Glad your’e okay Ben. Sorry for the family and neighbors. Never been through one of those and God willing, never will. Take care, Terry

  9. I haven’t heard much for news, but I am starting to get calls and I did see a news helicopter today. We had some tornados here in Western Iowa. Letting my brothers know we are OK and have no damage, but not so lucky are some of my friends and relatives. We watched the storm develop in Nebraska and cross over into Iowa last night on the weather radar. Once into Iowa it started spawning tornados. Our Tornado siren went off and we went to the basement and then lost power. We have a major transmission line down, plus a lot of feeder lines.
My cousin had a semi-tractor hooked to a grain trailer in his yard. It turned it 90 degrees and then flipped it over. The trailer beside it was picked up and carried across the road. I found peices of it 3/4 mile away. The grill from the semi-tractor was 1/2 mile away. Unfortunately part of his house ended up in the feedlot killing some cattle.
Seems everybody turned out to clean up. Blessings of a rural community.

  10. When are you New Yawkers going to get done talking about the old Bronx neighborhood? That was then and now is now! Just kidding!!! It is so great that you can now have these wonderful conversations after all these years thanks to Larry Harper! What a guy!! Too bad you two can’t link up in Killeen Tx as I bet the stories would really fly!

    1. Change of subject. I spoke with Tiny over the weekend. He’s doing o.k. living up in God’s country; 200 miles from the nearest airport and 30 miles from the Canadian border .Tooch

  11. Tooch….Couldn’t be anything like it used to be, though. Back in the 50’s and 60’s almost evervybody was immigrant or first generation…My parents came from Ireland. My wife grew up across the street from me and her parents came from Ireland……..But we had an Italian barber and a Jewish candy store owner.

  12. Tooch, we were practically neighbors…..I have not been there for many years but I was told it is now mostly a Vietnamese community .

  13. Tooch, I grew up on Andrews Avenue just off Fordham Road near St Nicholas of Tolentine Church…….. We just met one time, but your name always stuck in the back of my head.

  14. Short Round,
You may have had better looking legs but we had more handsome in the filth and dirt
    we all wore!

  15. tooch,
were you with 1st plt in last half of 69 ,70 i was 1st plt ldr that was wounded day after thansgiving 69 . i think i remember you i was the one that wore the green beret. like to hear from you.

    1. Bill, if I remember , you were wounded in the leg from a booby trap that was tripped by a sgt. with the first name of Marty. I also was hit [ small piece of scrapnel] in the wrist. That same evening, another LT. was killed on the hill above. If I also remember correctly, you and I didn’t exactly see eye to eye. Regardless, it is good to here from you , and I’m glad we both made it back. Tooch

  16. to all—— i have a request—- with all the roof damage/now water heater leakage that went unnoticed i’m looking at redoing bout half of the house//including replacing some flooring//any carpenters or extra hands that have time on their hands my brick and mortar address is 229 hempstead 126//emmet,arkansas//71835

  17. Tooch…..I am also from the Bronx, now living in Albany, NY. Someone introduced us In January of 1970 when I was an FNG….. Welcome to the Website……..I hope you will get re-acquainted with all of your old pals and make some new ones.

    1. Hi, William. Thanks for the reply. What part of the Bronx were you from? One of the problems I have is that most of the guys I served with, I only knew by their first name or nickname. Tooch

  18. Mark Tucciarone, Col Nerone asked about you at the St Louis reunion. If you want to make contact, I think he is on our roster.

  19. bill b–in response to your 2nd platoon remark–all i can say is–after seeing the pics of them guys skinny dipping–NO DOUBT in my mind–1st platoon had the best looking legs

  20. Tooch……ya that’s Ron Hansen. I remember you and I met sometime in the fall of 69…you were short and on your way out, and I just came into Charlie from the 82nd….maybe Oct/Nov 69. I think Tiny was our squad leader after Willie….. and then I took over for Tiny until I left in July 70.

  21. Tooch…. you have the right Tiny. What months were you in the field? Do you remember Cpt. Morris or Hines?

    1. Chuck, I was in the field from June 1st. 1969 until the end of Feb.1970. In Feb., I was in the command post with cap’t Hines. At the end of Feb. I was sent to battalion to run the war room for Col. Narone for 2 months , then got a 3 week drop in country and went home . Good to here from you. Tooch

  22. Mark:
Which photo are you talking about? I’m sure there were a lot of “Tiny’s.” We actually had two when I was with Charlie Company, one in the 2nd platoon and one in the 3rd. The both carried the pig for awhile.

    1. Gary, the tiny I served with in C2/1 1st. sqd, 1st. platoon in the second half of 1969 was Ron Hansen from North or South Dakota; I can’t remember which. I had come in from the field with a foot injury; when I returned, he was gone. He had burned his hand with a trip flare. I neverheard from him again. Mark
