  1. LT, it is nice to talk to old American comrades. Today, I spoke with John Brown and we probably talk for about an hour. He lives about an 1hr & 45mins from me. It was great to speak with JB.

  2. Hello from Texas, we are here and it was over 100 today – 90 back in Iowa. Will be in San Antonio at the Regency Plaza on the River Walk and then back up to Killeen on Thursday. Looking forward to seeing ya all.

  3. John,
Isn’t it great how things can come together from our first connection to now you have spoken with Louie and have renewed you C/2/1 brotherhood.
    Col Nerone,
Thanks again for your generous donation to our hospitality room goodies! We will lift one in your honor.. Hope your surgery is successful with a quick recovery.

  4. That’s nice of Si, Larry. However, were we not there for three days? And Chuck was not there? Could be a good time had by all!

  5. I want be able to make the Iowa reunion or any other reunions until 2012. My wife is recovering from lung cancer and is now receiving more treatments. I received a phone call from Louie Laparl last night and was really glad to hear from him and I hope to hear from some other grunts as well. Until next time, I hope all of you will receive many blessings from above.

  6. A wake up and I will be leaving to go to the reunion.
Si Nerone sent me a very nice sized contribution for liquid refreshments. He did the same thing last year for the Wabasha reunion which kept the hospitality room full of refreshments for two days! Thanks very much Si!

  7. Three days and a wake-up to Killeen. HOPE IT COOLS DOWN A BIT! Nine days of over 80 and Seattlites are starting to look forward to——–RAIN. Imagine that.

  8. Chuck,
I love your play on words! There’s probably a riddle somewhere in there about how many Thai girls does it take to fill a hot tub with Chuck in it?
RIP all those killed on 911! We will never forget or forgive!

  9. LT
Jacquzi….. Did I ever tell you about the week I spent in Bang-cock……
I’m sorry…… The jacquzi word just triggered a memory of…….
    well, let’s just say a memory……

  10. Gary,
It’s kind of like the old game we had in the military about breaks when we were training. I believe the saying was ask for 15, expect 10 but get 5. Supposedly the Comfort Inn is just up the hill from the Holiday Inn and has a better view of the Mississippi. Anyway I am getting rooms with a jacquzi for a little more dinero.

  11. LT:
Top Secrest, who made the arrangements in Le Claire, set aside 15 rooms and apparently they’re all full up. Louie LaParl was also told the same thing you were told, so that should mean a minimum of 18 guys who will be there!
Of course, we all hate it when we can’t all be in the same hotel, but there’s no way to figure how many will actually show up. Sometimes, it’s as few as 4 and sometimes a lot more than that, so when we make the bookings, we just have to sort of play the averages.
In any case, we shouldn’t have any trouble finding each other and hanging out.
Hmmmm. I guess we’re gonna have to start wearing name tags! LOL

  12. Gary etal,
I just called the Holiday Inn Express in Le Claire and they didn,t have rooms available for the nights of 21-22 Oct. In asked what was close by and they gave me a number for a Comfort Inn just up the hill from them. They only had several rooms available but I was able to book 2 rooms for Terry Roberts and Myself with our wives. The number there if anyone else needs to inquire it is 563-289-4747.

  14. Bill,
Lots of basements flooded. Water out of the banks. Hit and miss in my neighborhood on basements flooding. Mine is nice and dry. Schools closed because of roads flooded and some mud slides. Man killed when his basement wall fell on him while bailing water. Glad you are OK.

  15. Hey Bill Beckum…..Any trouble with flooding in your new neighborhood?….. My house is OK because its on top of a hill, but many people nearby have been flooded with water up to the first floor. Some houses are totalled, roads and bridges damaged etc.

  16. I just made my reservations for the Iowa reunion of the 70-71 group. Anybody else coming?
By the way, the riverside rooms are taken, so the only thing left is the railroad side rooms and they offered me a $10 discount. Naturally, I took it gladly! LOL
If you’re coming, ask about that discount.

hope there`s enough laboring taxpayers still out there.

  19. I won’t be going to the reunion due to physical problems that make it difficult for me to travel……I will be with you in spirit…. and will partake of Father Fleischmann’s Holy Water here at home…..Thanks for this website , Larry Harper…It is a blessing…. a shout out to LT, Chuck., Fast Eddie, Short Round. …Make sure my old hooch mate Pancho gets enough tequila . …………..Also..Happy Labor Day…Raise a glass to the hardworking people!

  20. As things stand right now, I’m afraid I won’t be able to join y’all in Kileen after all. Maybe next time.

  21. Haven’t been around for about a year, but I can’t stay out of Jan. 11 discussion. I don’t know who helped out after we got hit, so i have no comment on that. But I was probably about 50-100 feet from Al Firman and I kept hearing him yell for a frag, then boom, then yell frag, then boom. There was an E-5 named Shephard (different Shephard) who got hit next to me and Vanderbosche by a chicom; all 3 of us did. His arm was broken and I think he handed me his m-16 but all the three of us did was get the hell out of there. I had a minor head wound but my eyes were full of blood (not as bad as it sounds) and bush had two wounds. that was the same time that Arky & Jake were killed but not by the same dink. I remember someone, I think Stueve, yelling “Arky’s hit” but I didn’t know about Jake until we got to Chou Lai I think. Lucky was shot through the throat but survived, I’m told.
I remember booby trap that got Marty and Captain Smith (I thought it was Lt. Smith) and that Smith had just had a baby, who he never got to meet. I think that was a month or two earlier.
