  1. Gary,
Sorry, to say the human nature of some men never change regardless of which war we are in.
Can we take of a collection for Bill and that song. He needs professional help.
A Merry Christmas to all and truly I am proud to be a part of Co. C 2/1 196th LIB.

  2. Christmas time in sunny Vietnam
(to the tune of “Walking in a Winter Wonderland)
    Rifles pop, are ya’ listening?
    On the trail, bullets whistling
    What a horrible sight,
    A small firefight
On Christmas day in sunny Vietnam
    Later on we’ll perspire
    Sweatin’ out the cease fire
    You pray through the night
    You’ll make it all right
On Christmas day in sunny Vietnam
In the paddy you may find an ambush
Or a sniper, maybe even two
And no matter where you run for cover
You know the NVA are watching you
Where’s the snow, and the tree lights
    And the cold, wintry nights,
    Santa won’t come tonight
    They shot down his flight
On Christmas day in sunny Vietnam
    ……. I found this on a 11th L.I.B website ….Merry Christmas everyone!

  3. Shortround, I wouldn’t use those cherished Charlie rats on a Bear win against the Packers. Although that would be major this year, I’m saving them for a much bigger celebration…….when the Cubs win the World Series. Sounds like it might be this October……..so I’ll save some for you. Was it the scrambled eggs that was your favorite…or the beans and d???s
Lt……I’ll bet Vegas will be giving the Bears 2 TD’s

  4. All of Charlie Company vets,
Not sure when I’ll get the time to post a Christmas message here on the “Grunts” discussion page, so let me take this opportunity to wish you all the very Merriest of Christmas’s and a Super New Year. For those of you who either currently are in Florida or will be heading there in the next month or so, hopefully we will have the opportunity to get together for a “Mini-winter reunion”. I know that Brother Ben Buehler has been in contact with several of you including Ty Harper, John Dorman, Ed Davies, among just a few. Until then, may all of you stay safe and have a healthy and happy Holiday Season.

  5. russ–don`t try getting LT to eat those C-rats you brought home in 1970–some dinner that would be.
sure won`t be betting on the steelers–wow–what an ugly loss. ben needs a new ankle

    1. Russ,
I don’t bet on life or football but if Cutler doesn’t play Greenbay should win easily. If something is at stake for Greenbay such as home field advantage throughout the playoffs they will rise up. If not, just the age old rivalry will be at play. saying all that, I give no points but would bet a lunch.

  6. chuck–good to see you found your typing finger. when you getting over this way ? bring an umbrella and long underwear–tough winter here
fast eddie has had a slow typing finger all year. it could be lost by now.
will see tonite if the steelers have their act together , was good seeing the ravens plucked
60 minutes last nite looked ready to bury cleveland next to detroit

  7. Chuck,
I don’t worry about that for two reasons: first, there is a good blend of cheeseheads(like me) and Bears fans this close to the border and secondly, the true Bears fans are pretty disgusted with the outcome of their season. It just shows you what happens when your NO#1 quarterback and your star running back go down. I am so glad I couldn’t watch the Greenbay and KC game yesterday or I might have ruined by big screen. Payton Manning will probably have grounds to ask for a raise next year. Tebow didn’t pray enough!

  8. Fine…. the Pack playing the Bears on Christmas. A fine time for me to run out of heroin……
Fast Eddie…. How bout dem Colts……..
LT… don’t trash talk the Bears to loud….. Remember that you may be near the Wisc./Ill border but you are still south of it. If the wrong people hear you dissing them, we may find you in a garbage can somewhere. Doc Capone is laghing every week while his Pats slide under the radar. Larry’s Broncos got a little spanking that they needed also. take a knee Fury.

  9. Come one SR! Don’t fall off the Pack after one loss!@ After all you could be a Chicago Bears fan. It can’t get any better with the Packers and Bears playing at Christmas night. Wishing you and Jan a very Merry Christmas!!!

  10. LT–considering how the pack played today, i just might put my wallet where my mouth is, depending on who the pack plays in the super bowl–

    1. short round.Cpt. Yap was my first co. when we were working out of lz.baldy. Sorry that he is not doing well.

  11. got a card from cpt. yap. besides pulmonary hassles, doc now says his lungs are scarred from agent orange. he now has an oxygen tank.

  12. Bill: The NVLSP has done extremely important work for veterans of all conflicts.
Without their efforts much of the services and compensation for Agent Orange related conditions simply would not be available.
    A super organization.
I try to support them financially whenever I can.
    Website: http://www.nvlsp.org/

  13. Questions:
    1) Has anyone ever heard of the NVLSP (National Veterans Legal Services Program)?
    2) Ever used them or had a buddy use them?
    3) Looking for insight.
    Thanks

  14. For anyone who is interested the original b/2/1 link on the 196 LIB was originally intended to be for B/2/1ers but the group who put it together have decided they couldn’t scare up enough support so they decided at the last ADVA reunion to become a chapter under them and open it up to all 2/1ers. They haven’t decided on membership dues, etc but are working on it.

  15. i would like to use this time and space to APPOLIGE for sending any unwanted e-mails or posting on this site..MERRY CHRISTMAS to one and all may you be blessed in the following days and yrs.

  16. I am treated at the VA hospitai here in Seattle in an area of the hospital through which they move people who have passed. They move them on a flag draped gurney to some area within. Truly amazing to watch as everybody stops, steps aside and stands quietly as that person goes by. A very moving and respectful experience.

  17. SR,
I would be shocked if Green Bay didn’t take it all this year. They are really fun to watch! Poor Chicago, boo hoo! I saw something on the CBS evening news tonight that really moved me. They have started a group at VA hospitals called NO VET DIES ALONE which is intended to provide some measure of comfort and connection to vets who might otherwise die alone. They said we are losing 1800 vets a day in VA facilities. Lord have mercy!

  18. i`m tempted to say it will be sept 14 to 17–but don`t know for sure
    ben–i found an old phone # for george lathrop–near 20 yrs old–anywaY–IT`S 203-379-1264 AND THE ADDRESS was 134 forest ave.–winsted connecticut,06098
LT–i will NOT be helping to support your retirement this year, as i refuse to bet against the pack.

    1. Thanks, used the info for a people search – came up good – area code had changed, but I got an auto parts store. Hope the address is good.

  19. Guys,
Does anyone out there have contact with Doc Whitebird? He is supposed to be the host of the 2012 reunion. I don’t believe Larry Harper has been able to get ahold of him.
