  2. Larry Harper, Nothing is better than good news. Brother, you surely layed some on us this morning. Geno and I have been there and done that and know how blessed you must feel. Merry Christmas to you guys. PS: You to Brandon

  3. I’ll add my Merry Christmas to all my brothers also. I think finally last week we got the corner turned on my wife’s health issues!
I got a Christmas card and a letter from Glen Coonts. He is getting short on his time to retire from the Army. He says he has less than 100 days. The way I remember it, you didn’t start saying you are “short” until you had thirty days or less. But then again I am comparing a 2 year career to a 42 year career, so I guess he has the right to start talking about being “short”. Then again his career might not be over with as four years ago he was retiring “for sure”.

  4. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday. It was great to see some of you in St Louis last year.

  5. Dan let me know what night you make reservations for in Lombard as I was thinking about doing the ADVA reunion also and I thought $79 a night for the Westin was a good way to get a night or two out of the house.

  8. Wishing all my Brothers a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Again, special thanks to Sgt Fury for his tireless effort in bringing us all together. Rock, hope to see you while you are in Arizona, and congrats on the retirement.

  9. Made my reservations for Wabash MN 2010 Reunion today. Look forward to it! I wish all my Vietnam brothers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year in 2010! May God bless all of Us!

  10. Oh great! SPAM on our website!
The 196th website had to change theirs to prevent it. Y’all may too, if this becomes commonplace.

    1. If it becomes a regular problem it should be pretty easy to combat with the website software we’re using. It has a bunch of different ways to prevent spam but I have most of them turned off to make the discussion feature easier to use for everyone. For reference, since this new website has been up, it has blocked 663 spam attempts already. Given that only one has made it through so far out of those hopefully further action will not be needed other than deleting the occasional spam comment that makes it through.

  11. i know it is early but MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all . may it bring good health and well being . larry

  12. Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger! Wind chills in the Chicago area tonight of 20 to 30 below zero! Ouch! We had a lovely November and now this!

  13. Larry,
Chilly here in South Florida. Lows in 60’s & highs in 80’s. We are getting our winter clothes out before forst bite sets in. Great snuggling weather.

  14. As nearly as I can figure, today is the 39th anniversary of the first time I ever got shot at. (excluding an Oklahoma beer joint where the rounds weren’t directed at me, as if that matters to the bullets). Not surprisingly, it was American’s who did the shooting.
Alpha company had been in a running fight with the dinks for a couple of days in Antenna Valley and finally called in Cobra’s. One of them mistook Charlie Company for a bunch of dinks and fired us up with rockets. If he’d opened up with his mini-gun, he’d have killed us all.
From that point, my war experience sorta went downhill. 🙂

  15. Most all you YOUNG GRUNTS learned about the Japanese bombing of Hawaii in school or from family. Well, here is how an OLD GRUNT learned about that awful day. My daddy ran home early from work and turned on the radio for news reports. This was repeated daily for the next four years. May God bless and keep all the sailors, soldiers and airmen in his house that were there 68 years ago today.

  16. I probably mention this every year. Chrismas eve of 69, there was a cease fire. We were on a hill somewhere and we had a lot to drink and felt pretty safe. Our officers kept warning us to break it up because you know there could be some sniper or whatever who didn’t feel like honoring the cease fire or didn’t know. Anyhow, a few of us made up our own “12 days of Christmas” and had some really good laughs on that hilltop. I remember clearly two of the lines. 1st day was “A sniper in a palm tree”. 5th day was “5 RPGs” streteched way out. Other stuff was like 2 hand grenades, 3 AKs, 8 choppers landing, 9 dinks a shooting but I’m making those up right now. I don’t remember who else was in our little “combat Christmas chorus” But if anyone remembers who and what we sang, how about we try to make up a little retelling of it and maybe by next year (not this Christmas-we need time to remember this stuff) we can get it into Vietnam magazine?

  17. Jim:
I think what you’re talking about is the new visitor’s center they’re building underground at The Wall. As a part of it, they’d like to have a picture of each one of the 58,000 names.
    That’s awesome.

  18. In Vietnam magazine, there was an article about a new thing to put pictures of those killed in Vietnam at the wall. I don’t know the details but I can reread it and post more info. It is being sponsored by Fedex. As I understand it, they will scan the pictures and get the guys name and stuff. I don’t know much they need, how they verify, etc. but it sounds like an interesting thing.

  19. I have been working on the photo section again. I added a section for our KIA’s. I only have three photos for our guys. Does anyone have any photos that they can get to me?

    1. Larry, at one time u had a roster with address’s of the guys from our unit. I am going to San Antonio this month and wanted to c if any of the guys live there. If u still have the roster please sent it to me. Thanks
