  3. Rock,
Come on you wuss! It’s about 18 here with 8 inches of new snow on the ground with temperatures tonight expected to go below zero!! I thought you were tough!!

  4. Short Round, I don’t go to many Americal reunions, this will be the second time. I live in the south suburbs of Chicago and this one will be close to home. I plan on bringing my grand daughters for one night so they can swim in the cement pond. We have a mobile home in Tampa Bay area and it is 28 degrees here this morning, this is not what I signed up for. This global warming is a b_ _ _ _.

The ADVA reunion in 2000 was in San Antonio. I attended that one and that is where I was reunited with Pancho.

new year of 1970 sure was a riugh 1 for A co. i`ll always remember us getting probed that nite. glad they didn`t pick us for the fireworks.

  7. Every New Years since 1971 has been a gift from God to me. Without His grace, I would not have survived that year.

  8. Happy New Years to all my brothers and your loved ones. May 2010 treat us well. This night is always overshadowed by the loss of the 8 dead and the many wounded 40 years ago tonight. It was my night for night patrol.
Spent the evening with US Representative Steve King – very interesting!.

Well, come on and join us then! I’m sure you’ll find someone you know. In fact, I got to Charlie Company in late Nov, so I might recognize you too.
What platoon were you in and why did you leave early? I left early too because I got an early out to go to school. I’d already been to Germany before I went to Vietnam.

  11. Gary—like Mitch i came over in Jan of ’70 left before Chritmas of ’70. the army sent me straight to Germany with 30 days vac. in the states. i had no clue till short round got in touch with me then e-mailed about the site. so for me it was like a 40 yr reunion. some pics of me are in sr’s. the guy with his back tuned [with the radio/ammo rnds.] there r others. then the one where we are having a short break -tiny- poncho larry fry

  12. Mitch:
The Alexandria, VA reunion is those who served in 1970-71. Most of us came in-country between the summer of 1970 and early 1971 and we all know each other. We’ve been having reunions almost annually since about 1978 and have been involved in each others lives ever since. We’ve taken that initial, accidental, combat brotherhood and developed it into something more. We know each others wives, children, parents, grandkids and their spouses. It wasn’t planned that way, it just sort of developed over the years. We never knew that any other group even existed until a few years ago.
When we found out about the larger group, our members voted unanimously to continue our get-togethers every year and, if anyone wanted to go with the larger group, that was fine too. Some do, some don’t. In any case, it’s not that we’re anti-social or don’t care about our Vets from other years, it’s just that we’ve become used to one another and our shared experiences and prefer to keep a separte reunion going as long as we can, in addition to any others.
Of course, it should go without saying that Charlie Company Vets from ANY year are more than welcome to join us and we’ll go out of our way to make you feel part of the group and welcome. It’s not a competition; just something we voted to continue.

  13. OK…I am a bit confused as to reunions. Maybe this is something we don’t talk about, but help me to understand. We have a reunion set for Minneapolis and another for Alexandria in 2010. Are we that large that we have more than one reunion?
Thought that at Hilton Head that we would have a reunion every other year and make it special, with speaker, banquet, activities, etc.
I value meeting and talking with “the old guys” who came over when the 196th was separate and they fought a different war than those of us in 1970. We all share Charlie Company and the 2-1, which makes the reunions special.
Given my short tenure in Feb – Mar 1970, with which group and whith which reunion am I?

  14. hope all had a MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a good new year. any 1 heard from lt wags ? haven`t heard anything here. chuck–you in AZ for a bit ? any chance we can grab a coffee and a war story sometime ? yes, remember the slick with the Christmas fly over and santa.
larry –sure has to be a good feeling judy is doing better. ron hurst of 1st platoon lost his wife, peg , this past year–for sure a rough one. be well brother grunts–s.r.

  15. HEY Ken R. I just made reservations at the hotel to attend the Americal reunion. Did you get the Americal Journal? Are you a member? The last reunion I attended was in Kansas City. It was quite a mix with WW II and Nam vets. Dan

  16. Merry Christmas to my brothers. I was the one in 1969 that made the Christmas tree on a slope just outside the perimeter. I tied a bunch of smoke grenades together with det cord in the shape of a Christmas tree. Loved you guys then, love you now. Hope to see everyone sometime at a reunion before we die. Even then I have a feeling we will all be together again in a special place.

  17. Happy Holidays to all…… & a Happy Birthday to Doc Whitebird. I also recall Doc going to the USO show. Lucky dog…. Larry, good to hear Judy is doing well. Suzanne just asked me about her a week ago and then we got on the road to go to Arizona. I’ll talk to you soon. Does anyone recall Santa flying chow out to us in the field for Christnas in 1969? Hey Top, was that you dressed up in the Santa outfit? the Huey had a green smoke grenade on one slick and a red one on the other slick. A fond xmas memory.

  18. I seem to remember today is Doc Whitebird’s birthday, does anyone else? Once I get something stuck in my noggin, it stays. Getting to go to the Bob Hope show was a birthday present the way I remember it. Happy birthday, Chief!
