  1. Bob Sabo was our pig man for a number of months. Don’t remember any complaints on jamming. I was a “little grilie girl” & carried the M-79 until I could pass it to a new guy.
Question?? Has anyone ever filed for an increase percentage on a disability from the VA. My PTSD has gotten worse since getting a small diability a few years back. The older I get the crazier I get according to my wife.

  2. I carried the pig for about 6 months and never had any problems with it. Most of the time, I just carried it slung across my shoulders with a web belt. I tried putting a can on it once, but all it did was bury into my stomach, so I took it off. 🙂

  3. The only problem I recall is if you didn’t mount a CRAT can on it for the belt of rounds to slide over on the way into the receiver. Without the can the angle was too sharp and the belt would kink……

  4. I have been changing emails with Russ Schweizer and he talked about the problems we had with the pig jamming. I carried the pig for several months and got to use it several times, but I do not remember any problems of jamming with it and I thought it was a good reliable weapon. Does anyone else have memories of the pig?

  5. larry thnx for update. sry she is in more pain. prayers be with you. guys do me a favor if you receive e-mails from me that come in as spam please let me know.

  6. Rock: Judy is only having pain related to the surgery. At the present time we think that the cancer is gone. We have good insurance that pays well, so right now she is being passed from one specialist to another. So far, she has seen four specialists that have ruled out problems in their specialty. Next week we see a spine specialist that wants to rule out severed nerves where they put her pain medication pump right after surgery.
Hey, Ed Davis, how is staying in Indiana for the first time in a couple of decades in the winter going?

  7. Ben,
That Carl Jacob I told you I was in contact with lives in Charles City, IA. How’s everyone doing on getting your reservations for Wabesha? I got mine! 9 months will fly by and we can gather the grunts!!

  8. IMonly saw Short Round one day and had breakfast with him and told war stories. Mine get bigger all the time…… I wanted to see Grose but I was staying way south east and never got up his way. More importantly, how is Judy doing? The two of you caught some rain while you were down in Texas.
Hey Ty, are you out there? have not seen you post in awhile.
It has been two weeks now since I turned 60 and I am proud to say that I have not shit my pants once….

  9. Ben Buehler, is all your snow and ice about to melt? I am back in SE Colorado now and we are having decent weather now with tempatures reaching in the 50’s and 60’s each day.
Chuck Missar, did you and short round have a good visit when you was in Pheonix?
Darrell Chancelor, are you about ready to play golf again?

  10. We link to the 196th webpage and they link to four or five other groups.
I don’t find a link back to this page there. Am I looking the wrong place?

    1. I don’t see a link back to this site either. Someone probably just needs to contact them to let them know we exist and to get them to link back to us?

  11. I met Steve Hilligoss at O’hare in Chicago. We flew to Seattle and shared a room , then reported to Ft Lewis and flew to Cam Ran bay , then to Chu Lai. We ended up in 3rd squad 3rd platoon C-2/1. About this time in Jan. we loaded up on APC’s at night and headed for Happy Valley. One APC got stuck and we walked towards a highway. Some gook started yelling at us. Squad Leader Causey tried to get to the front to Hilligoss who was on point. I saw a flash of light and Hilligoss was 10′ in the air. Brickens was behinde him and flying through the air as was Causey. I was propelled backward. Everything went dark, I could smell gunpowder and heard screaming, though my ears were ringing. Hilligoss and Brickens died in the 70’s VA hospitals. Causey lives is in CA

  12. Today is the birthday of a guy that was drafted the same day as me, we went to basic, advanced infantry training, flew to Nam on the same plane and went to charlie company on the same chopper. He went to third platoon and I to second. He and Roger Sample got a remf job with the ARVN’s where he got wounded badly, while I stayed with Charlie company in the field to finish my tour. Happy birthday, Tate Hayes.
Does anyone else other than the “Originals” serve with one person?

  13. thanks for all the input. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to top and the rest who have reached that day or recently past it. hopeing all are coming out of the cold 60 shure sounds better than 07.

  14. Hey Ken….I do remember and I guess that’s already a few years ago. Wish I could have made it to St. Louis. I just happened to click an old link and got the new web site. I couldn’t login, and wasn’t sure where we left off. The new site is quite good.
I am still in Crystal Lake (815-823-2900) and I will call you next week.
    Thanks Much

  15. Russ you are on the roster! I don’t know if you remember me but I am the guy who called you quite a while back. I live in Grayslake! I was the platoon leader of 2nd Platoon from Jan to May 70. You missed a great reunion we held in St. Louis last September. The next get together as you can see here is Sep 2010 in Wabasha Mn. If you would like the password for the roster call me at 847-223-2832. Larry Harper is who you need to contact to get photos on the site!
    Ken Ruesch

  16. Can anybody tell me how an old doggie can get on the roster..? I see my likeness in a few of Shortrounds’ pictures and I guess after 40 years and the way things are going, it’s time to sign up again.
Shortround……I didn’t know you were such a photographer. The pics are great….and I can probably add few more. I think you even have a picture of Capt Morris in there.
    The Best to all !!

  17. Lawrence:
So far as I know, you can still file any time you have a condition recognized as having been caused by AO. There are now about 10 or 12 such diseases. Of course, a guy should start with the AO screening, which I think they’re still doing.
I’m sorry, but I’m not all that up to speed on AO because I personally don’t worry about it. Where I grew up, we were covered in it every year when they sprayed the cotton crop to make the leaves fall off, so if it’s going to get me, it would just as likely be from that as from Vietnam.

  18. Heart disease has been added to the list of Agent Orange related diseases. Ask your doctors to do a test. Also if you die of a heart condition , your wife can apply for DIC compensation. Happy birthday Top and Chuck!

  19. Opps, i forgot to wish Top Silverman happy birthday yesterday. But, to the guy born one day after Top, I am just on time for his happy birthday whish. Happy birthday Chuck Missar.

  20. for any question about va medical problems, go to the following web site. vawatchdog.org.
excellent site has all information you need.

  21. lt-mitch-larry-gary—–yea —————- a heat wave. we hit 53 . got a question any and all can respond. i have been asked by other area NAM vets that eitner didn’t know or have gave up trying to find out. Whats the status quo on Agent Orange fileing ? still file/too late? larry

    1. The deadline for filing for Agent Orange claims is long gone, but you can register on the Agent Orange Registry anytime. You will get a quarterly newsletter. But most importantly you can go to the VA for an exam/physical under the Agent Orange banner.
VA is keeping tabs on we AO people, which is why you are seeing more and more illnesses and conditions becoming AO-related.
Go to your local vet center to see if they know anything, but otherwise go to the VA. Have not checked their website, but think AO is a category.

  22. I have been a snow bird in south Texas going on two weeks now. Man, do they have great oranges and grapefruit here. I can’t speak the language here, however. It did freeze here afor a couple of nights.
I’ll try stopping by the site now that I am finally getting internet service.

  23. Today is Jan. 10th, the 11th Vietnam time.
On this date 39 years ago, we lost 2 good men from the 2nd platoon to a command detonated Claymore mine along a trail in Antenna Valley: SSG Leo Rose and SP/4 Alan Gray.

  24. Short Round, I went to the Chicago parade in 1986. In fact that was the first contact I had with the 196th since leaving Vietnam in December 1968. I joined the Locate a brother that was headed up by Tony May and than a few years later I joined the 196th association. In 2003 I went to the Vietnam reunion in Kokomo IN and became a member of the Americal Association when I was there. ROZ
