  1. Hey guys!
Just got back from the MO reunion late this afternoon. Had a wonderful time thanks to our gratious hosts Frank and Lana Smith and their extended family. I never so much in 3 days as we did on this get together. Thanks to you Frank and Lana for hosting!

  2. Hi guys, just got back from spending a month in Florida visiting my 86 year old mom.The woman is amazing for her age. Got to spend a day with Bullwinkle and his wife for a barbeque at his house. It was good to see them again. Just one note of frustration , I have 3 calender’s at home. All of them military in nature. None of them note that today is D-DAY.My father was at Omaha beach that day. If they want to make this day irrelevant, they could at least wait until our generation is dead and buried. Tooch

  3. here i go again–planning to call senator Mc Cain and ask why he can`t get congress to FORCE the commander in chief–the big O–to shut down the mexican border til the marine held there is returned. prez got a remf back from afghan but can`t get a marine back from right next door ??? am i missing something here ? like the abscense of common sense–nothing new in government. feel free to call your congressmen.

  4. terry–1st hand account here from couple years back, when larry showed rex “how to plant crops”. larry drove rex and me out to the water lines–near 1/4 long–each , and larry showed rex how to turn on the water. after such a grueling job–(took 3 minutes and 16 seconds ” larry drove us back to the office area, where larry and rex had a few beers while we played poker. during that time–in the air-conditioned area, i did not see either 1 of them sweating from their “exertions”

  5. Terry:
I am getting ready to enjoy summer. I finished planting corn yesterday. Our granddaughter is getting married this coming weekend. After that we will be enjoying life!
At the end of next month, I will see a lot of my brothers at the reunion. Other than that, not much going on in my dull life.

  6. Radio silence is in full swing here, just wondering if anybody has enjoyed their summer yet? I have.

  7. Semper Primus!
My deepest respect, admiration and affection to all of you and, in particular, to those we lost both in the war and since then. ALL OF YOU are… REAL American Heroes.
    SALUTE!

  8. Pray for me. If I can put this all together in 3 business days, I’ll be off to Paracin, Serbia on a disaster mission because of the floods they’ve had there. Tentatively, the schedule is to leave Friday and return June 9th. That means I won’t be going to the reunion in Jefferson City because of the dates, or to Michigan because of the expense. This trip will cost me $3000 or so.
What a great blessing God has given me! To first survive Vietnam and then to be able to server others in His name is more than I deserve.

  9. Nina: The name doesn’t ring a bell with me. Do you know what years he was there?
Somebody is bound to come along who knew him, but be patient. For some reason, the guys here sometimes go on “radio silence” for a week or more!

  10. Does anyone remember Mike Mallory, Paris Missouri, from your unit. I would be interested in hearing from them. Mike passed away July 2013 from cancer. Co C 2nd n 1st Inf 196LIB taken from DD214.

  11. At least we don’t confuse it with Veteran’s Day like most people do.
Have a great time this weekend for those who have no more weekends.

  12. I know the Charlie Grunt family knows the real reason for Memorial Day, so have a safe one as I know we will never forget.

  13. Lots of rain in eastern Colorado in last two days, particularly in the Denver area. One of the Denver TV stations just advised, “Don’t drown while in your car”, which really is good advice.

  14. Just made reservations for Mich., hope to see a bunch of us there, seems we’re not getting any younger so go when we can!

  15. I was in a restaurant in Tomah, Wisconsin last week and, as always, was wearing my 196th LIB Vietnam Veteran cap, when my waitress came to me and said that the young gentlemen at the table next to me wanted to pay for my dinner. I have my Combat Medical Badge affixed to the cap, and they saw it. They were all medics, and said that they wanted to do it out of respect for the “brothers” that preceded them. I tried to talk them out of it, but they insisted. What a great group of young American men! God bless America and all of the young men and women that give so much!

  16. That would be yes, on Thanksgiving day. And yes , I did graves registraion a few times to identify guys, most notably Danny Roberts, the two medics and a couple others whose names escape me. Not easy but it was necessary and it was with great respect I did it.

  17. Hi Short Round….call me anytime……but you must be mixing me up with somebody else…..After March 16 1970 I was medevacked to Japan and then stateside…… No graves registration detail….thank God……I would have hated that worse than the infantry.

  18. Brothers,
Those of you who plan to join us in Escanaba MI need to get your attendance forms into Brother Bill Porath(Doof)m so he can go ahead and finalize some details. I hope a good many of you attend as we aren’t getting any younger! Hope to see a whole lot of you there!

  19. I have nothing bad to say about medical care at the VA here in Seattle, they have been great to me.Now, some of the admin. staff may be pshycopaths, but the medical people are caring and compassionate. I think the VA leader is doing a good job under difficult conditions, and I hope we keep him. As for the Am. Legion bitching, they will keep on because they can’t help themselves, that’s what they do!

  20. OK, I have been to three VA since about 2000. I always go to the main hospital since I have a number of health issues. First was Bay Pines in St Petersburg, FL. 2nd was West Palm Beach in Lebanon, PA. I have been happy and satisfied with each. I do carry Medicare and a supplement for my serious heart condition as I have an uncomfortable feeling about my retired Cardiologist now. However I knew when the war on terror wound down the VA would be flooded. There was poor planning and funding. No excuses for them as people die in their care like any other hospital. I will continue with the VA.

  21. true–shininski didn`t kill 40 vets–or more ? but some 1 needs to hang-easiest to blame the guy at the top

  22. Bill: What happened at the VA in Phoenix and Ohio isn’t policy. It’s just somebody trying to cover his ass and look good to his superiors by jiggling the data. It’s not unique to the VA, but it’s also not revealed to be widespread yet either. In the end, I think it’s just a few bad actors and they’re making the whole system look bad. We’ve all seen that happen before. And, there’s never a shortage of Veteran’s who don’t know how the VA works, but who think everything that happens is personal and are more than ready to get in front of a camera and sound off.
I get ALL my healthcare from the VA and couldn’t be happier with it. Yeah, sometimes I have to wait, but so what? I waited in the civilian healthcare market too. I’m not the Grandest Little Tiger in the Jungle who’s supposed to have his every want serviced right away and neither is anyone else. The VA does a magnificent job of meeting the NEEDS of Veteran’s, which isn’t the same thing as their desires, and I credit Shinseki for making it work better than ever. I can’t imagine what’s behind the calls for his resignation because from my vantage point, he’s doing a bang up job.

  23. I`.m REALLY struggling with myself to keep from commenting about officers and their memory problems. will see how long i can refrain.

  24. bil conl–you were transferred to graves registration–correct ? can i call you sometime ?
bill beck–whew–V.A. phoenix didn`t get to me–yet. i go to the east valley clinic. no idea if any KIA there or it`s just the big V.A. downtown. kinda sounds like 1971-72–when 1/2 the stateside people had too much Vietnam news, and the other 1/2 blamed us grunts and let us know about it–when we weren`t ignored. Too many of todays youngins don`t remember the job LBJ did us. of course the ” great society ” plan worked wonders–tax wise. jumped our social security taxes on paychecks.
