  1. S.R. I habe been hacking away at 30 foot vines here which are 1 inch thick. My arms look like I had sex with a Bobcat from all the hooks on the local plants.

  2. Hey SR,
Any elephant grass down there? I hated that stuff more than any bamboo!! Good stuff to get jungle rot after contact. Roger Samples made us cut an LZ for a medevac out of a large area of this stuff to save him from dysentary.

  3. i`m soooooooo busy clearing a jungle from bamboo that i don`t have time to discuss and solve world problems. good thing i had proper training in bamboo clearing.
is chuck still pretending to be working somewhere ?

  4. The invitations for the September reunion went out by email yesterday. The snail mail ones will get sent as time allows. You can check for details at the reunion button above if you did not get an invitation.

  5. Our KIA list will be updated soon with some brothers that I did not have on the list and one correction on the date of death. Donald Alvis KIA date will be updated to Feb 9, 1968.
Additions with missing names will be John Crandall kia 03/21/67, John Frankel kia 11/04/66, Robert Lewis kia 01/10/68, and Patrick Smith kia 12/15/67.
If anyone knows anyone else that is not on our list contact me.

  6. I made contact with Michael Lynd last week. He was 1st platoon leader in early 1969. He lives in San Antonio, TX. We had a nice chat. His name has been added to the roster. Anyone needing to get the password for the roster can use the contact form on this web site to ask for it.

  7. I have heard from a few guys letting me know that not all our KIA’s are on our list. I will be getting the list updated with the names I have received. I knew the list probably was not complete, but it was the best I could do with what I could find out. I appreciate you grunts letting me know because I want to honor all our fallen brothers. If anyone has names for taps list I would appreciate it. I just added a name to taps last week.

  8. Just keeping in touch with everyone who served with my Father…E.F. “Sonny” Kennison. He was in country in ’68 with 3rd platoon, 3rd squad, C 2/1. Any comments about the time spent with him would be greatly appreciated. I posted a while back, but got side tracked with kids and life…but I am still here and still interested from hearing anything you may want to share. Hope this post finds each one of you well and happy!

  9. SR, really you live in Arizona but you Vacation in Florida. You miss the swamps (i.e. rice paddies) or something? Strange, even for you.

  10. The recently updated and corrected “Roll of Honor” on the 196th BDE website lists the following name and date as a Charlie Co. KIA. I don’t recognize the name. Does anyone else?
    3/11/1971 Calton Dennis 1LT

I’m out here in AZ working my Butt off helping my daughter and son-in-law move into their new home. I have two rooms to paint at this house also.
Hey, Jimbo Grose…. Are you out there?

  12. chuck–i thought about sending lt a check, but knew i `d hear too many comments when it bounced. us 1st platoon guys have an image to maintain.

  13. dang tom–figures you`d show up while i`m in florida–dang. not sure when i`ll get back to az–could well be in march. guess we`ll have to figure a plan B–.

  14. mrs. ben–hope you 2 got back to iowa ok–though i have no idea why anyone goes there in the winter.i didn`t get here til 5 feb–think you were gone by then. are ed and marie still down this way ? not sure how long we will be here, as the gals keep finding more yard work for me to do. seems a grunts work is never done.

  15. lt–good to hear the bet pay-off arrived ok. i was going to send it insured, but was a bit low on cash, due to circumstances caused by the steelers and ben`s lame arm. may they all be snowed in this winter.
i`m sure you can imagine many opportunities on where to place the pay off monies. invest well.

  16. I noticed the M113 APC pic. I remember (early ’72) working west of Danang with A CO and I think Charlie was north of us with a CAV Troop. We dug in on some low hills and could see the Troop maneuvering about 2-4 Ks nor th. After they set up there was a lot of firing sometime after night fall. Was that you guys?

  17. SR
I got that large envelope full of money today! Thank you so much and thanks Steelers! I will now have to figure out what to do with it! Please don’t help me with that as I’m sure you would like to tell me where to put it!!
    Thanks for your quick payment

  18. hey, short round. . .this is ” the mrs.” sending you a message from ben in florida–we went through homestead in a violent rainstorm a couple weeks ago. wanted to take the tamiami trail back to arcadia (where we spent time with ed and marie davis) from the keys, but missed the turn off in the heavy rain. wish we had known you were there–would have stopped by to dry off with a couple tall, cool, wet ones! now on our way home to iowa and are dodging blizzards in the south–not fun, but ben is a good driver and puts up with my panic attacks.

I think Shortround just said ” The check’s in the mail”.
It seems I have heard that one a few times in my life…..

    1. Short Round, Tom Virden here, where are you these days, I’m in Arizona and will be here until the end of Feb. and was thinking we might get together.

      1. short round, Tom Virden here in Arizona and wondering if we might get together. I’ll be here until the end of Feb.

  20. terry–we are in florida–south of ben–in homestead–now if i could just get some fishing and gator hunting time.
lt– your winnings went out yesterday–in an oversized envelope.

  21. Lt don’t spend that dollar from SR till you get it. I don’t usually bet on football. Good thing I didn’t this time, the Steelers played there half of a game again and the better team won.

  22. You know I am still struggling with how to spend the dollar I am going to collect from SR. Trips, boats, houses I just can’t make up my mind. Too bad I didn’t get Wally Searight in on the bet, then I would have had a real dilema!!
