  1. Hey Ben!
Are you going anywhere near Cam Ranh? You could stop in and see my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Hope you are enjoying your trip! Are you still planning on coming to Sister Bay? I hope so!

  2. Hi, my name is Chris Blosser. I just got home from visiting a travelling memorial with my father, Roy Blosser. It was a very emotional afternoon for him seeing the wall for the first time. He could only stand to see it for about 15-20 minutes. He gave me a list of names that he wanted to find, but we were unsuccessful because he didn’t want to talk to anyone that could help us find them. My dad has never talked much at all about his time in Vietnam. I’m not sure if I’m in the right place, but hopefully you guys can help me out. Here’s what I know: He was in Company C 196th light infantry brigade. He was origionally based in Tay Ninh and later moved closer the North Vietnam to Chulai. The names he gave me are: Jimmy or James Walker, Robert Blosser, Jimmy Finnagain, Bobby Wright, and Tommy Biller. He especially wanted to find Robert Blosser, and I have looked and looked and I can only find one Robert Blosser but his hometown was Kent, Ohio. My father assured me he was from our hometown of Mt. Jackson, Virginia. Please feel free to contact me at cblosser14@gmail.com if you have any information. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your service to our country.

  3. My gosh, Ben. I wish I’d have known you were going. I would have gone with you. This sounds like the trip of a lifetime. Well…the SECOND trip of a lifetime. LOL

    1. I announced this trip at the Iowa reunion and the Texas reunion. Originally it was all 2/1 guys, but we are down to just 3 of us-others backed out so we are piggybacked with other 196th guys. I got 2 contacts in the last month to go but that was too late. Need passport and VN Travel Visa. After Marilyn saw some video she wanted to go. There are women with us but they split off after the second day, met up again 2 days ago-split off again and I think we meet them again in Siagon near the end of the trip. They had no interest in humping the boonies with us. One of my college friends is coming over here later this year with his whole family using our same tour director. If I come back I am sure Marilyn would join me.

  4. Cimbed Siberia today with the LZ Commander from 1970. Told about the attack of April 30,1970. That has to be why we were sent out there. Did you guys fly into Siberia? Saw the likely spot where Emory, Luna and Rimmer where killed-left a marble memorial plaque. Crossed the river on which 3rd Platoon was ambushed. They have dammed a river there to make a huge lake. Lake homes-people fishing. 6 of us plus the driver and guide drove around Tien Phouc in a van drinking beer and listening to music of the era What a hoot! Driving around in the area we used to patrol in fear of our lives-had to stop to buy a second case of Tiger beer.

    1. No-I am still here as a MIA-POW. Good to hear from Bill. It is 4:30 in the morning here. Up early for 6:00 breakfast-long roadtrip back to Heip Duc. Staying in Hoi An-Hoi
An Pacific-Google it-will blow your mind. Last night was dinner on the river-had our own waiter for our table-stood there all the time to meet our needs. Waitress kept my drink full. Outdoor courtyard overlooking the river, palm trees, lanterns in the trees. This just blows my mind. A lot of similarities to 42 years ago, but also a lot more modern. People are so friendly. Goods and services so cheap. A lot of vacationing Westerners here, most older like us, but some young couples. We are touring in an air conditioned bus-12 of us mostly 196th guys-couple marines. We get to firebase or battle site and get out to walk there and hear the stories from the veterans that were there. My turn will come soon to where Jake and Arky were killed. Hope to make site where Doc Rimmer was killed. Will be about a mile away today and will scope out accessibility.

  5. I was in Chu Lai about this time 42 years ago to go on R&R. Early this week I was sitting on the beach at Chu Lai eating seafood. 2 Days ago climbed Hill 151 overlooking Arizona Territory where C Company was in summer of 71. That made Hawk Hill look like a resort. LZ Ross yesterday. Drove by Baldy-could not enter. Ate lunch at base of LZ West. Today will be LZ Siberia.

    1. I have tried to make an entry each day as we travel to keep you posted. Could never to get it to enter till now. Figured I was censored. Some of my Emails to home have not gone through-some have. I am now pleasantly surprised to see one of my entries.

  6. Just got back from my road trip with Larry, had a blast. Got to see and meet up with Roger Sample, Art Sprague and Tate Hayes. What a great bunch of guys, so proud to have served for a time with these people and many more from C company. And when you talk wiyh Larry, be sure to ask him where the 4th floor is’

    1. Larry,
Did you get Roger talk’in about his R&R to Bangkok..? I’m pretty sure he went with Chuck, Rocky and I in March 71. There’s some stories there…..

  7. Terry Roberts and I are in Portland and waiting to see Roger Sample and having a brew. We are going to see Tate Hayes and others on our trip. Terry says that I have not lost my sence of humor, but he says he has broad shoulders and can take it.
Ben Buehler went back to Nam last weekend and is now on stand down.

  8. I stopped by and visited for about two hours with Mike Lynd at his office today here in San Antonio. Mike was 1st platoon leader up until about June, 1969. He was also our company XO. He is getting along really well.

  9. Happy Birthday TY Harper!
In another two days I will still be 4 years older than you!

  12. Well, since nobody seems to feel much prolific these past few days, I will say that Larry Harper is planning to come out to the Seattle area sun belt (i.e. read rain) for a few days at the end of the month. Looking forward to swapping lies and telling tall stories while sipping refreshments around the old fireplace don’t you know! It’ll be good tohave him around. Later on.

  13. Welcome Home keith–just getting over my aniversary headache–from wound on -3-29-70–lasted three weeks this year–no swelling-///am wrking on S.D.reunion–praying it will be a go..would be nice to visit longer

  14. There are several of us guys that plan to show up for the reunion a few days early. Wally Searight and myself have booked rooms for Sep 18-23. Whomever wants to show up a couple of days early are welcome to join us. We have done this for the past couple of reunions and we always have a great time. Fred Passe, Rex Allen, Ben Buehler, Ed Davis, and a couple of others are trying to arrange to be there also.

    1. Larry, I have booked my room for South Dakota. I”ll be arriving on the 18th. See you then. Tooch

  15. Hey Jim I remember you well, we went on water jack a time or two. SGT Blocker was my recon sgt and LT wicks or williamson was the FO. I was not there when Robert was kill but I new him well, we were friends. Jan and Feb 72, was full of frendly fire. Feb 15, I return to the rear at Camp Red Horse until I went home. I remember Griffing, who could not shave and McLaughlin who got ARCOM for covering the squad with the pig after we made contact in charlie ridge. There are a lot of thoughts going thru my mind. I will keep in touch. Welcome Home to you also.

    1. Keith: I help run the web site. If you email me I can get you set up with the passwords to the roster section so you can see if you can find anyone you know. email me at larryharperatcenturytel.net. Be sure and replace the at with the @ symbol. This keeps some bad intended people from being able to copy any email addresses in public fourms.

  16. Keith, I was in C 2/1 2nd Platoon, squad leader during that time. LT. Muse was my platoon leader for most of that time. Remember one day, 2/26, we took incoming friendly arty just after being inserted as we were going for the tree line. Later that day our platoon was ambushed and lost (Heavy) Robert Lee Daughtery and 3 WIA.

  17. Hi, My name is keith Henry, I was attached to Co C, 2/1 Inf during oct 71-feb 72, before that I was attached to Co C, 1/52d inf, was RTO for FO team. there was so much movement of units because of standdown and the war coming to and end. During the time I was with 2/1, Cpt Fox was the CO. I remember some of the names of some of the guys and so of the hills and valley we were in. I would like to wish everyboby that still around a prayer of thanks. and for all that did not come back, you will never beforgotten. RIP

  18. I mowed the concrete today, cleaned some pigeon crap off my car, took a deep breath of dust;then hopped into a cab and got my next lesson in speaking arabic.

  19. Had to mow the yard today. The first time I have ever had to cut grass in March.
The trees are even getting leaves, it’s sure not a typical PA spring.
