  1. Don’t click on that link. God knows what it is, but I suspect it’s a foreign porno site.

    1. Thanks for catching that spam and warning everyone about it. The spam protection software we have keeps most of the spam from getting on the site, but doesn’t work 100% of the time. I am not sure you can get to 100% because something that tight might keep out legitimate posts. I go thru all the spam at the end of every month before I empty the file to see if there is any legitimate post in the file. I have yet to find one legitimate post in the spam file. When I moved that post to the spam folder, there were 1,682 spam messages that have accumulated since April 30.

  2. Chuck,
People our ages should not be allowed to have anything that creates fire or be around it.

  3. C-4 is too fun to keep for cooking. I did however serve up some pound cake and peaches for desert while they were here. I also had Jim Grose out at the same time. I had to take away their Zippo lighters while they were here just as a safety measure.

  4. another 4 may has passed–a day some won`t forget–i won`t. R.I.P. .
heard a rumor–only a rumor–that larry had to restrain rex when chuck offered them cold C-rats on the visit there. geesh chuck–next time have some C-4 for the guys to at least warm such a treat for the grunts.

  5. I want to thank Sgt. Rock aka Chuck Missar for his generous donation for the web site. The donations really help to keep plugging away.

  6. Larry,
Glad you guys had an opportunity to get together. You kind of make me jealous as I so darn far away from most of the guys.. Your right up makes me think of another song. I’m a thousand miles from nowhere by Dwight Yoakum. Can’t hardly wait to see you in June!

  7. Rex Allen and I just got back last night from our trip to Phoenix to see Chuck Missar and Jim Grose. We got there last Thursday and stayed with Chuck. Where Chuck lives southeast of Phoenix is almost 1,000 miles from Walsh, CO. We drove about 150 the first day and stayed with my granddaughter. The next day we drove the other 850 miles.
Jim came over on Monday and stayed the night. We had a great time, had lots of good food and a beverage or three.
On the way home, Rex and I stopped several times and took it easy coming home. We stopped in Winslow, AZ where the Eagle’s song “take it easy”. The song goes “Well, I’m a standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, Such a fine sight to see, It’s a girl my Lord in a flat-bed Ford Slowin’ down to take a look at me, Come on, baby, don’t say maybe. We did the tourist stuff including buying some merchandise.
Thanks for your hospitality and everything you did for us Chuck!

  8. jim a–regarding acid reflux-tony p. a boxcar crew chief in 68-went into kham duc-he had a bunch of acid reflux and died from cancer rather quickly and agent orange was definely mentioned. further details i don`t know-but we sure lost a decent vet there.
was good to see rex and larry and memorable walsh, co. took 10 minutes.
am waiting for details on larry and rex visit to AZ and chuck m. who won poker games.
after a month in the bush–even leeches and mosquito slowed down getting to us.

  9. Alan,
Those NVA documents said we smelled so bad after being in the field so long to not get near us. They tried to stay up wind but it always did not work for them. We always tried to flank them so the NVA would be down wind. I think it took me three weeks to get clean after getting back and six months to that smell out of my pores.

  10. We fought our war out in the jungles and mountains. You fought yours in a built up urban environment. I’m not sure I’m tough enough to do what y’all did.

  11. Alan, We did what we had to do, and we did take a lot of hits. We lost some really good people over there. But I will say this; my last few weeks, I worked in BTOC , and was privy to info from S-2 and S-3. There were captured nva documents saying to avoid making contact [in our AO] with Charlie Co. That indicated a fear of us. Thanks for finding this web site, and thanks for your service. Tooch

  12. Hey Ben,
Look what you did! You mentioned money and everyone sought a hiding place and went dead on the site!

  13. The Scholarship Awards in honor of Doc Rimmer, KIA, May 4, 1970 will be in Oregon, Illinois, May 15 at 6:30 PM. Anyone going to join me? Also seeking donations for the scholarship. Funds can be sent to Larry Harper, webmaster.

  14. Someone told me Acid Reflux may be one of the symptoms of PTSD. I know of people that could not hold down a meal after leaving VN. Many are showing up with it later in life.
I was in a steakhouse a few weeks back and in the bathroom was a man about my age regurgitating. He apologized and said it happens often. I asked him if he might be a VN veteran and he said yes (River Patrol Boat). I suggested he check with the VA and he indicated he was too proud to ask for help. I did not know it could lead to cancer. I feel sorry for him. Wish I had that information then to pass along. When I get my annual checkup at the local VA Clinic, I am always asked about any Acid Reflux. I always thought my Acid Reflux was God’s way of telling me not to eat so much.

  15. LT….I am still a little irritated that they booked the reunion in a totally non-smoking hotel…I would guess that at least 20% of us are still smokers.

  16. LT….Nope. I did not sign up with the organization and I ain’t paying any fees…..I am just going to see my brothers at the Wall.

  17. Happy Birthday LT.. may it bring you great blessing in being a learned person…god bless you and yours…

  18. Hey Jim,
I think I heard something about VA recognizing it as a disablity condition. Going to be in DC for the 196LIB get together? If so I will try to link up with you to meet you in person.

  19. LT is right. it is a good idea to ask your VA or private health provider about being screened for esophageal cancer.
Acid reflux (heartburn) is a very common afliction. It may lead to another condition known as Barrett’s esophagus.
In turn, Barrett’s esophagus may lead to esophageal cancer.
Note in both cases “may.” Neither progression is certain.
There is little agreement on when or how to treat these conditions.
It has been a boon to doctors who practice endoscopy.
I hope the VA is investigating the possible connection of reflux, BE and EC to Agent Orange exposure. It is at least possible such exists.
    Jim Armstrong, C 2/1 65-66

  20. Bill, Thanks for the birthday wishes! Darn things come too quick these days. I know you registered at a different hotel in DC but did you sign up with the 196LIB to help pay some of their administrative fees and the cost of the hospitality room etc?

  21. I want to thank LT Ruesch for his generous donation for the web site expenses. The cost of keeping the web site up to date never ceases and help with paying is always appreciated. Also thanks to LT Ruesch for his donation for the Rimmer scholarship. I will pass this along to Ben when he lets me know when he is going to present the money. And final comment continuing with the same fellow, happy birthday tomorrow to LT Ruesch.

  22. Just was informed today that I lost another good friend who is the second in less than a year to esophageal cancer. His name was Dave Farrey and he was Special Forces in Vietnam. He lived in West Virginia. He and I worked together in Ft. Lewis for a while after I came back. He was a hell of a good man. Very down to earth with a tremendous sense of humor. He will be missed. If you have a history of acid reflux, pleased get yourself scoped before it is too late!
